Hosted by the Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center, it's the Biggest Little Science + Fiction Film Festival in the World! Tickets are free, thanks to the Hitchcock Project for Visualizing Science.
Sci-On's goal is to bring science fiction and science documentary short films to audiences in Nevada and around the world -- and to recognize, reward and showcase creativity, ingenuity and science-based imagination.
In this two-part Discover Science lecture, The Ice Cream Scientist™ Dr. Maya Warren shares the inside scoop on how her chemistry background paved the way to becoming an ice cream scientist and science communicator. Then, Page Buono, director of the featured Sci-On! Film Festival short finalist Frosty Formulations, will elaborate on the importance of creative science storytelling. Plus, watch the seven-minute short film and explore the surprising science behind one of the world’s favorite desserts – ice cream!
Stay for a Discover Science Ice Cream Social immediately following the presentation. Then, beginning at 8:30PM, join us for screenings of the other science documentary finalists selected for the Sci-On! Film Festival.
Tonight you can enjoy (and vote for!) Science Documentary Film finalists from around the globe at the Davidson Math and Science Center: Redfield Auditorium (Room 110) on the UNR campus.
Please note: This event WILL NOT be held at the Planetarium, which will be undergoing upgrades to its Dome Theater at this time.
Complimentary parking will be available in Gateway Parking Complex (on the corner of Lake and Ninth Streets).
