Stargazing Celebration — Stellar Snapshots and Stargazing Seats to Support the Planetarium

Celebrate 63 years of reaching for the stars with the Fleischmann Planetarium! And come away with a first-class piece of Planetarium history: your own Planetarium dome seat!

These padded dome theater seats (which sell online for over $500 each) are perfect for planet viewing, stargazing and watching meteor showers. Or just as a conversation object for your favorite room, study or “Mission Control.”

The first 20 Deluxe Ticket purchasers will each get their own Planetarium-used seat to take home with them. As a fundraiser for Planetarium operations we’ll be holding a silent auction on about 10 more of these classic seats that night.

To start the evening, we'll watch Beyond the Visible: The Story of the Very Large Array. This 24-minute production explores the synergies of technology and human curiosity that power the world's most productive radio telescope. Narrated by Academy Award-winning actress Jodie Foster (star of the film "Contact," which was based on the novel by Carl Sagan and filmed at the VLA), the program depicts many of the people whose diverse efforts enable the VLA to be a cutting-edge resource for astronomers and humanity worldwide.

We’ll also set up several high-tech telescopes and astrographs to explore some of our favorite celestial objects by capturing them to provide to you!

Stories and stars and galaxies will be provided for all.

Don’t miss this special opportunity to celebrate our Planetarium during its historic renovation and a chance to “reach for the stars” with friends and family as well as amateur and professional astronomers!

Here’s to our next 63 years as a gateway to the university — and to the universe!
