What caused the great ship to sink?
Experience what it was like to stand on the deck of the doomed ocean liner Titanic the night she sank. NIGHT OF THE TITANIC shows the unique conditions in Earth and space that - coupled with human errors - contributed to the sinking of the ship on April 15, 1912. Learn about: ocean currents, iceberg formation and drift, global warming, solar cycles. With one narrator from that time, and one narrator from today, learn about the ship and virtually tour its final resting place on the ocean floor. Learn how the radio room cut off iceberg warnings because they were too busy sending for-profit radiograms.
Information about global warming was provided by the Rice NASA ESIP grant. Information on the solar cycle conditions that may have contributed to the unusually large iceberg field were provided by the NASA Heliospheric Forum.
